What to Expect from Your Treatment at Deeping Osteopaths
Supporting You with Clear, Comfortable and Personalised Care
When you first visit Deeping Osteopaths, we take the time to understand your health history and current symptoms to provide the most appropriate care for your needs.
Your Initial Consultation
At your first appointment, your osteopath will:
-
Ask about your general health, lifestyle, and medical history
-
Discuss your current symptoms or injuries
-
Carry out a physical examination, with your consent
This examination may include gentle movement tests and palpation (touching) of the affected area. If you have any recent test results, X-rays or scans, feel free to bring these with you.
To help your osteopath assess the area thoroughly, you may be asked to remove some outer layers of clothing. You’re welcome to wear loose-fitting clothing, a t-shirt, or shorts if you’d prefer.
Please note, we currently have a male osteopath at the practice. If you would feel more comfortable, you are very welcome to bring a friend or relative with you into the consultation room.
Your Treatment Plan
Once a diagnosis has been made, your osteopath will:
-
Explain their findings in clear terms
-
Recommend your personalised treatment plan
-
Offer advice on self-care and exercises
-
Discuss how many sessions may be needed
If we believe osteopathy isn’t suitable for your condition, we’ll refer you to your GP or another healthcare professional. Where appropriate, we can provide a written summary of our findings to support your next steps.
Is Treatment Painful?
Osteopathic techniques are designed to be as gentle and effective as possible. Some patients may feel mild discomfort during or after treatment, especially during the first few sessions. Your osteopath will explain any techniques in advance and check in with you throughout.
It’s common to feel a little sore for up to 48 hours after treatment—this is normal and usually settles. If you have any concerns after treatment, please get in touch.
Treating Children and Vulnerable Adults
-
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
-
We welcome vulnerable adults with a friend or family member, with the patient’s consent.
